Don’t always know what I’m ON about, but I’m usually RIGHT ON. That statement’s sort of arrogant now that I’m reading it over…. No, I’ll leave it in. I am going to start my ABOUT THIS AND THAT, AND THAT OTHER THING with a bunch of babbling, which will give readers an indication of what this, my first blog, will be about. Nothing earth-shattering. I am writing just for the sake of writing. Because I can. It’ll be lots of stuff about music and radio shows, familial folklore, the sordid details of my growing up in New Jersey and Detroit and other places I’ve lived, and my random thought patterns – all depending on my mood o’the day. Oh, and dogs. I’ve been a volunteer d.j. at nonprofit community radio station KFAI, 90.3 Mpls and 106.7 F.M. St. Paul www.kfai.org for more years than I care to mention – I’m now on that organization’s board of directors. “Pop for the Unpopular” was the name of an overnight radio show I used to do, which I appropriated from local Minneapolis artist Cal a/k/a Rev Lac’s marvelous album of that name. PFTU seems to be a name that fits for a blog I guess. Are you or have you ever been unpopular? Please feel free to comment, but be gentle, I’m very, very sensitive. Not really – attending high school in the Downriver Detroit area sort of cures a person of that….
I’ve recently completed a Public Relations Specialist program and am transitioning into the PR field after having had a long career as a legal administrative assistant (you know, a real paying gig.) I have just completed an Advanced Social Media course, exploring strange new platforms, seeking out new life and new civilizations, etc. Boldly going where it seems like everyone’s going…. Everything is everywhere and everyone is anyone and it’s a brave new world. Try not to be scared, late baby boomers. So I think I’m gonna be REAL COOL knowing about the ever-growing Social Media landscape: delicious; delikta; snoox; schmooz; plaxo; plato; ning; bling; orkut; orka; jinx; flava; ramalamafafafa. P.S. News Flash – I’m now serving as a Communications and Public Relations Intern for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Twin Cities. They’ll have me doing website updates and blogging for The Big Blog (I started typing The Big Bog, which would be the Irish version.) http://bigstwincities.wordpress.com/ P.P.S. Starting another internship 6/4/14 at a nonprofit which does advocacy for Somalian Women, Isuroon. I’ll be handling their external communications. More experience for me and it’s a burgeoning young young organization which needs to make itself known to the public. I’m really excited to get started. http://www.isuroon.org is where they’re at on the web. P.P.P.S. Officially taking on the role of P.R. Manager at Isuroon!!! Stay Tuned! How many more PPPPPs can I stand?
