I’ll start my ABOUT THIS AND THAT, AND THAT OTHER THING with a bunch of babbling, which will give readers an indication of what this, my first blog, will be about. Nothing earth-shattering. I am writing just for the sake of writing. Because I can. It’ll be lots of stuff about music and radio shows, familial folklore, the sordid details of my growing up in New Jersey and Detroit and other places I’ve lived, and my random thought patterns – all depending on my mood o’the day. Oh, and dogs. I’ve been a volunteer d.j. at nonprofit community radio station KFAI, 90.3 Mpls and 106.7 F.M. St. Paul www.kfai.org a/k/a Rev Lac’s marvelous album of that name. PFTU seems to be a name that fits for a blog I guess. Are you or have you ever been unpopular? Please feel free to comment, but be gentle, I’m very, very sensitive. Not really – attending high school in the Downriver Detroit area sort of cures a person of that….
I’ve completed a Public Relations Specialist program and am transitioning into the PR field after having had a long career as a legal administrative assistant (you know, a real paying gig.)
In June I joined the organization Isuroon (a Somali word basically meaning “women who can take care of themselves) – we are a small nonprofit which is well known in the Somali community here in Mpls but we’re about to become known to the community at-large, if I have anything to do with it, and I will. Stay tuned.
Second Job!!! I’m very happy to report that I’ll also be doing pr & communications for the African Development Center starting in October. I’ll be managing their media and press releases, doing their newsletter and writing articles, and conducting interviews of those who have been helped by the ADC.
I’m so thrilled that I’ll be working with both of these nonprofits, and hopefully raising their profile out into the community at large. I’m feeling like, “Hey yeah, I can do this….” I don’t see law firms in my future – have I really broken away?
Newsflash – third job. I will be the communications maven for the M2 Foundation, working with the marvelous Marc Anderson and my dear friend Drew Miller. Check out m2foundation.org. They are really doing ground-breaking work and I’m kind of giddy to be a part of it all!
How am I going to do it? Coffee. And meditation. In that order. Then rinse and repeat.
