I’ll start my ABOUT THIS AND THAT, AND THAT OTHER THING with a bunch of babbling, which will give readers an indication of what this, my first blog, will be about. Nothing earth-shattering. I am writing just for the sake of writing. Because I can. It’ll be lots of stuff about music and radio shows, familial folklore, the sordid details of my growing up in New Jersey and Detroit and other places I’ve lived, and my random thought patterns – all depending on my mood o’the day. Oh, and dogs. I’ve been a volunteer d.j. at nonprofit community radio station KFAI, 90.3 Mpls and 106.7 F.M. St. Paul for over 28 years and now serve as the president of its board of directors. Please feel free to comment, but be gentle, I’m very, very sensitive. Not really – attending high school in the Downriver Detroit area sort of cures a person of that….

As of April, 2016, I am the new Development & Outreach Coordinator for the Council on American-Islamic Relations cairmn.com. The contract communications work was just grand, but I am looking forward to focusing on one organization (well, I’ll still do some grant writing on the side). I am thrilled about this job!

My second year as board prez at KFAI started out with some drama and turbulence, but we’ve weathered the storm and are ready to get to work. I think it’s going to be fun, and the mood at the station is upbeat and pretty positive (well, to most people, anyway.)

We lost our beloved Iggy dog a few months ago and that’s just drilled a hole into our hearts. We’ve adopted a four year old rescue dog from Kentucky and he’s incredibly skiddish – we think he’s been abused. He’s warming up though and we’re trying to be patient with him. Egor likes him, and that’s what matters, of course, here in the doghouse.

Domino, the new guy

So I have been sorely remiss on my blogging recently but plan on more submissions in the near future. The job search, board thing and three contract jobs were keeping me pretty crazy busy. That and my Facebook addiction….

What?

Dec, 2016. Oh man have I ever been bad about posting. I feel like such a lameazoid. Work at the Council on American-Islamic Relations has been hectic and challenging in the months leading up to this surreal presidential election. Islamophobia is running rampant and we’re constantly responding to hate crimes against Muslims – we are really gearing up for what’s going to happen in the coming weeks and months – we just don’t know exactly what that will be.

Had my last board meeting as Pres of KFAI’s board of directors! I am feeling a huge weight off my shoulders and I am feeling confident that the board will carry on and stay on a good trajectory. Things are so much better at the station now and I hope they keep growing and improving.

I am painting again – took some classes and am feeling some confidence being armed with this new training. See my facebook page Art by Patti to see my stuff.

Ok, that’s my update.

  1. Dear friend, Thank you very much, I was really happy to have been following your blog. I’m still a lot to figure out, and here I can only say that you are an awesome blogger, full Inspiring and hope you can inspire more readers. Thanks and greetings compassion from Gede Prama 🙂

  2. I’ve read some just right stuff here. Certainly price bookmarking for revisiting. I surprise how much attempt you place to create this sort of great informative web site.

  3. So what’s the deal with F.G.M.? Is that a kind of “hey, you just gotta.” Kind of thing? I mean if female circumcision is mandated, can’t it be done at birth? Or did you have yours done at conversion? I am not being an asshole, I sincerely am curious about the practical application of cutting off one of the best parts of being female.
